Your most interesting projects / accomplishments?

One significant project for me was a major dairy factory expansion at Clandeboye, near Timaru, where I gained invaluable project management experience.  The project was to construct a milk powder drier with a CAPEX of approximately $100M.  The project was extremely well-planned, and we were required to achieve commissioning by a fixed end date to meet milk demand.  At the peak of construction over 500 personnel were on site working on various contract packages.  Our team led a partnering programme which aligned all stakeholders to achieve a very successful project on time and budget while meeting quality, safety and environmental standards.

A key transport project was leading the design and construction administration of the Great South Rd / Sylvia Park Rail Overbridge and Intersection Upgrade in Auckland.  The project involved extensive utility service relocations, diverting arterial road traffic onto temporary bailey bridges and constructing a 5-lane bridge over a live rail corridor.

I have also gained extensive experience working on multiple large-scale land and commercial development projects including Stonefields, Albany Centre Expansion Zone, Millwater, Auckland Airport, Hobsonville Point and Saigon Golf Course and Residences in Vietnam.

What you love most about your job?

Working on quality developments that better our communities now and into the future.  I like the collaboration aspect of my job particularly brainstorming key parts of our projects to come up with innovative solutions.  Also mentoring young engineers along their path towards Chartership.

Why you followed this career path?

Civil engineering attracted me as I wanted to apply my love of technical subjects to a career that wouldn’t be 100% office based.  This has turned out to be the case with some of my time still spent reviewing sites at the feasibility stage through to sites under construction.  Overall, I have found this career to be very rewarding with a lot of interaction with colleagues, clients, consulting partners, contractors and other stakeholders towards a common goal

Your interests outside of work?

Skiing has been a lifelong passion of mine which I continue to enjoy with my family.  I have also taken up bass guitar after a long break and love practicing my French whenever I get the chance.

What or who motivates you?

Working with excellent people and collaborative teams to bring to life exciting projects.

Who do you love to work with?

Clever people with positive attitudes who like to have fun along the way.
