Your most interesting projects / accomplishments?

There have been many over my career. Projects that come to mind include leading a project to undertake significant upgrades to both the trunk sewage reticulation and upgrades to the WWTP for Mount Isa City, in Queensland over several years from initial inception through to completion.  Another is leading the significant upgrade of 6km of Pyes Pa Rd in the Bay of Plenty from a rural road to a standard suitable for the State highway.

My career has enabled me to live and work in 5 countries in the SW Pacific (NZ, Vanuatu, PNG, Fiji and Australia), and experience the cultural differences.

I have successfully managed several engineering teams. The most challenging being to successfully establish and develop a team in Brisbane for a NZ based company.

What you love most about your job?

The variety of work, and that each job is different and presents its own challenges. Working with interesting people is a bonus.

Why you followed this career path?

It is in the genes. My father was a consulting engineer, and with several of my ancestors on my mother’s side also being engineers, together with a love of numbers and building things, becoming an engineer was inevitable.

Your interests outside of work?

My family, particularly now that I have recently become a grandfather. Like to relax with a good book, watch sport, go for walks to keep fit. Enjoy travelling.

What or who motivates you?

Positive and interesting people. Challenging projects.

Who do you love to work with?

All sorts of people from young starters to experienced, providing they have a positive attitude. I enjoy working with teams that can bring a variety of skills and expertise to a project.
